History of Key Club
History of Key Club

Key Club International is the largest non-profit, student-led organization for high school students, founded on May 7, 1925, by Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent at Sacramento High School. The aim was to encourage positive youth activities and community service. Key Club expanded with the first district established in Florida in 1939 and gained international status in 1943.

Women were first admitted in 1977, ahead of their inclusion in Kiwanis International. Key Club has actively supported global causes, raising over $1.2 million to combat iodine deficiency in 1998 and $1.3 million for HIV/AIDS in Swaziland in 2008.

Today, Key Club operates on nearly 5,000 high school campuses across 35 countries, engaging in approximately 12 million hours of community service annually. Funded by member dues and contributions from Kiwanis International, Key Club provides opportunities for leadership and service in partnership with organizations like March of Dimes, UNICEF, and Children's Miracle Network.
